Railroad Applications HIPPO multi-function power units have proven to be extremely applicable for track maintenance operations with railroads. The 2022E (shown above in background) fits on a push-cart, so the guys are able to operate (2) spike drivers per cart, versus just one with the other powerpacks. This really does make the guys twice as fast, and the report we got was that this crew...the one with the 2022E...was pushing the backhoes in front of them! Additionally, the unit enabled the spike-drivers to hit with more power! We were told that it hit hard enough that it actually drew the wood up to the spike as it was being hammered in, and a guy didn't have to pry up on the tie to set the spike properly.
