HIPPO: Doin' Time in Leavenworth!
The City of Leavenworth, KS become the newest member in the ever-growing HIPPO family, with their purchase of a 2032P for a new crew-truck.
2032P on F-550 for City of Leavenworth, KS Utilities
Chassis & Body Info
- 2008 F-550, Crew Cab, 4x4
- 6.0L diesel engine
- 5-speed, automatic, Torqshift transmission with PTO provision
- IMT service body (re-used from previous truck)
- IMT, electric/hydraulic Crane (re-used from previous truck)
- HIPPO 2032P Multi-Function Powerpack
- Reelcraft, spring-return hose reel with 50ft of hydraulic hose
This was a challenging project for several reasons: First, the 4x4
configuration prevented us from using the transmission's PTO, as we'd
planned on using. A clutch-pump was discussed, but we didn't feel
comfortable pursuing that solution, so we opted instead to do a split-shaft
PTO.
Easier said than done!
After some trial & error (with ample helpings of both!) we finally came up with a workable system.
This is the first split-shaft PTO version we've done for one of our units, so only time will tell about
the "robustness" of the installation. But we did it like everything else we do, with top-notch components,
as strong as we can build it, so we have great confidence this set-up will last many years.
The drive-train wasn't the only thing we "tweaked" for the City; we also mounted the housing of the 2032P transversely,
across the back of the body. The City told us we could use the street-side of the truck, but they had their ladder-racks
set-up there, and we didn't want to take away that storage capacity. So after a little head-scratching, we decided we could make
the transverse-mount work, and we succeeded!
And on top of all that, the City decided to add a hose-reel to the truck! Again, we didn't want to take away any storage
capability on the streetside of the truck, so we were able to install the reel between the crane, and the housing of the
2032P, so that everything fit together very nice!
Remote-Mount Control Panel with Transverse Body-Mount
The 2032P will operate:
- Hydraulic Power = TWO (2) 0-10gpm hydraulic tool circuits
- Electric Power = ONE (1) 4000 Watt generator
- Air Power = 80cfm, rotary-screw air compressor
- Will operate up to any two power "functions" (hydraulic, electric, air or crane) simultaneously, for continuous duty use
