03/23/06 City of Lancaster, PA Buys Demo Truck!

After 2+ years and 27,999 miles, the demo truck has found a new home!

The City of Lancaster, PA Water Transportation & Distribution Department just became the newest member of the fast-growing, mutlipower community. Taking advantage of a very simple "municipal lease/purchase agreement", they just purchased the 2003 International 4300 we had been using as a demonstrator unit.

Water T&D purchased the unit because, under normal circumstances:
  • They maintain approximately 5,000 fire hydrants including maintenance & replacement
  • They also maintain the water systems to approx 43,000 homes including maintenance & installing new piping, curb stops, and appurtenances
  • Additionally, they also maintain approximately 400 miles of water pipes through the system to the City & nine townships
  • Water main breaks happen very often
  • And occasionally, logs build up at the dam at the water plant. This vehicle has a crane on it, which work crews can use to remove them
So it's easy to see from the type of work they do that they frequently need AIR power (jackhammers) and ELECTRIC power (lights) and HYDRAULIC power (valve operators, water pumps, saws, tamps, etc.) on a regular basis.

Multipower Increases Efficiency
  • Currently, when work crews arrive at a site, they don't always know exactly what they are going to need because each circumstance is different. Since everything will be on-site with their new multipower vehicle, crews won't have to go back to the shop to get any items they forgot, which takes a lot of time. This will help reduce the multiple pieces of equipment they bring to a site, and will help them become more efficient.
Multipower Increases Flexibility & Responsiveness
  • It's not uncommon for work crews to be working at a site and another emergency comes up at another site that they need to attend to. When they get to the new emergency site and begin work, they realize that an item that they were using at the previous site is needed at the current one. At that point, they'd have to stop work, and go get the item from the other location. Again, since all their tools and power will be on this one truck, it will help them become more flexible and increase their response time.
Here is the technical information about their new truck
